Configuration

The CIVIEMME-SYSTEM post press equipment behind a Lithoman IV web press consists of floor conveyors, two ST 420 vertical log stackers as well as one PL 86 DUAL log palletizer.

The shingled streams of the Lithoman IV web press are transported via floor conveyors to a central waste ejection system where start-up, blanket wash and splice waste is ejected. On two conveying lines untrimmed products from two A3 or two A4 folder deliveries are directed into two ST 420 vertical log stackers. The vertical log stackers gently convert the signatures into logs of up to 1000 mm length. The compressed and strapped logs of both ST 420 are transported via a shared delivery table and log conveyor to the pick-up station of the PL 86 DUAL log palletizer. The log palletizer picks up the logs and places them correctly sorted onto two empty pallets according to preset packing patterns. Alternatively, the products can bypass the log stackers for three-sided trimming in a double stream rotary trimming line. Trimmed products are directed into two stackers which convert the shingled stream into stable stacks. The stacks can optionally be cross cross-strapped before they are manually placed onto the pallet.

The logs built in the ST 420 run particularly well in perfect binder or saddle stitcher lines. Taking advantage of gravity and by using state-of-the-art technology, the products are gently and precisely converted into strapped logs. The open design of the log building area ensures the visual monitoring of all processes and guarantees easy and fast access for the operator. Thanks to the space-saving and flexible construction, both ST 420 log stackers could be installed side by side. Via a shared log conveyor the strapped logs are transported to the Pl 86 DUAL log palletizer. In addition, both log stackers are loceated near the control panels of the Lithoman IV. So, the web press as well as the log stackers can be monitored and adjusted with minimum staffing.

The built logs are gently picked up by the gripper clamp of the PL 86 DUAL and are placed precisely onto two empty pallets. The logs can be rotated 90° or 180° to optimally adjust the spine of the products for subsequent processing in a saddle stitcher or perfect binder. An automatic turntable for 90° rotation of the pallet on the palletizing position allows for flexible packing patterns to fully utilize the available space on the pallet with respect to the selected log length. In addition, the turntable simplifies the feeding and delivery of pallets. Full pallets are automatically ejected from the palletizing area.
